The Master of Archival Studies Program in the College of Information and Mathematical Sciences at Clayton State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track graduate faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor for fall 2013. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The individual will teach courses leading to the Master of Archival Studies in a synchronous, online environment, with the possibility of summer courses. Course topics will include archives, records management, and archival technology. Because the program emphasizes digital archives, applicants must have a strong background in information technology. Strengths in records management; reference, access, and outreach, and in digital preservation and curation are desirable. In addition, the individual will be expected to be active in research and scholarly activity as appropriate for the discipline, and to engage in service to the university. The position is based in Morrow, Georgia, fifteen miles southeast of Atlanta.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required qualifications:
An earned terminal degree in one of the following areas: archival studies, library and information science, information technology, public history, or another closely related field.
Candidates having an advanced degree in one of the above fields and significant recognition for substantive and distinctive contributions to the field of archival studies or digital curation may also be considered.
Potential for contributions in research and scholarly activity.
Candidate must be eligible to hold graduate faculty status at Clayton State University.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States by the time of appointment.
Additional, desirable qualifications:
Certified Records Managers strongly preferred.
Doctorate in archival studies, library and information science, information technology, public history, or another closely related field.
A record of or potential for distinguished teaching directly related to archival studies.
The ability to engage students in online courses.
Three or more years' experience as a professional archivist or records manager.
Experience using software tools to support digital curation and preservation.
Evidence of current involvement in scholarly research.

THE PROGRAM

The Master of Archival Studies Program trains individuals to be digital archivists can curate comprehensive, trustworthy collections of records that merit long-term preservation. Graduates from the program will be well-grounded in theoretical knowledge and practical skills of archives. They will understand the impact of technology on the profession and will have the knowledge and skills to work with information technologists and to manage digital information. They will know how to work in a rapidly changing environment, finding innovative solutions to the challenges of digital archives.

The program began in 2010 and has strong support from a large community of professional archivists in the state who assist as part-time faculty, provide internships, and are willing to work with students on specific projects in courses. The program began offering online courses in 2011, and went completely online in fall 2012. Because the Master of Archival Studies is an online program, students may live outside the Atlanta area.

THE UNIVERSITY
