Job Summary/Basic Function: This position coordinates activities in the Technical Services Department, including cataloging, processing, receiving, mail services, and some automated functions of the Integrated Library System.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum Qualifications: Master of Library Science or equivalent degree from an American Library Association accredited university or college. Two years of experience in a technical services position in an academic library setting. Must be self-motivated, creative and innovative. Excellent interpersonal relations skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with cataloging services through the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC). Background in library computer technologies. Two years of supervisory and/or professional library experience. Demonstrated abilities in management including communication, planning, and organizing. Basic knowledge of RDA cataloging standards.

Proposed Job Duties
Performs original and copy cataloging of all formats. Maintains the quality and accuracy of bibliographic and related records in the Integrated Library System (ILS) through updates, corrections, and authority control. Maintains current data for all print, microform and electronic serials records. Collaborates with library staff in the development of new resources, including digitization of special collections and the electronic storage and retrieval of other electronic formats.
Supervises activities and training relative to technical services. Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures to receive, organize, and provide access to library resources, particularly in the Integrated Library System. Meets with catalogers to create standards of quality and uniformity and to solve problems affecting the operation of the department. Supervises the maintenance of updated manuals of policies and procedures. Supports the strategic planning process by making recommendations for technical services objectives and mission. Creates guidelines for, and manages, the distribution of discarded materials. Collaborates with acquisitions, reference librarians, and the Director of Library Services to license and maintain database resources. Stays informed about emerging cataloging standards, such as RDA, and guides the department toward utilization of those standards.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of developing technologies, bibliographic resources and tools as appropriate to library operations. Serve as a member of university and library committees. Maintain an awareness of current library issues and trends affecting all library departments. Reads professional literature and attends workshops. Perform related work as required.
Provides reference assistance for patrons on the use of databases and other library materials face-to-face, on the phone, or online as needed. Assists with collection development as needed.
