Job Description Summary

Penn Libraries seeks a highly motivated, creative Courseware Support Specialist to serve as a member of the Courseware Support Team. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Educational Technology and Learning Management (ETLM), the Courseware Support Specialist will support Canvas by responding to support tickets, evaluating educational technologies, and collaborating with stakeholders on workshops and outreach to the campus community.

 

Job Description

 

Duties:

 

The Courseware Support Specialist will be responsible for the following:

 

• Supports Canvas by answering user tickets through our Freshdesk ticketing system. Documents bugs and escalates issues to vendors as needed.

• Coordinates user-facing instruction, hands-on assistance, and outreach for Canvas and related third party tools through workshops, office hours, and appointments.

• Collaborates with stakeholders like the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and peers in ETLM like the Emerging & Digital Literacy Instructional Designer and Assistant Director of Learning Enrichment on workshops and other outreach efforts. Participates on campus wide committees on behalf of the unit like the Instructional Design Working Group (IDWG).

• Creates content for our Canvas at Penn web presence and participates on the Courseware Documentation Editorial Board (CDEB).

• Participates in activities and special projects that relate to the intersection of educational technology and digital initiatives

 

Please note this position is a 2 year term position from date of hire.

 

Qualifications:

 

Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of experience in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field. Demonstrated experience designing instruction, leading workshops, and creating documentation. The ability to work both independently and collegially, and to collaborate effectively. Demonstrated initiative and commitment to proactive, courteous service. Effective oral and written communication skills, and group presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Masters' degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Library/Information Science (or related field) preferred. Experience supporting Learning Management Systems (especially Canvas) strongly preferred.
