The Software Developer provides programming support to the University of Maryland (UMD) Libraries for the development and delivery of applications, with a focus on applications which support development and management of web pages and large-scale digital collections. They include tools for metadata management, search, and discovery of digital collections, tools for acquisition of digital collections, access to and retrieval of digital objects in the collections, and tools for preservation and maintenance of digital collections over the long term.
The incumbent will participate in activities throughout all phases of the software development lifecycle, producing thorough documentation, managing applications using version control, and following team procedures and workflows for code release. UMD Libraries is a collaborative environment with opportunities to share knowledge and experiences with other developers and Libraries staff. All team members are relied upon to identify and recommend solutions that enhance the work of the team.
The incumbent may also participate in development and support for UMD Libraries applications outside of digital collections.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (by start of employment) or a minimum of four years of related
professional IT experience - Demonstrated ability to research and learn new technologies and programming languages
- Strong user service orientation
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills

The position is eligible for a hybrid telework arrangement.
