Summary:
Temple University Libraries seek a collaborative, service-oriented librarian dedicated to improving user discovery of library resources by maintaining high quality metadata. Temple University Libraries serves the Temple community and beyond, including close to 40,000 students; over 2,000 full-time faculty; and researchers and visitors on Main, Center City, and Health Sciences Center campuses in Philadelphia and on our Ambler and Harrisburg campuses. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Metadata Management Librarian is responsible for the quality control and maintenance of bibliographic records in our library management system, in support of library services and synchronization of bibliographic metadata across systems. Manages batch processing, authority control, holdings maintenance, relations with external vendors, and the creation and export of MARC or other metadata to other systems or utilities. The Librarian is expected to test and recommend new tools or processes for managing bibliographic metadata and associated workflows and works with other departments and campus libraries to coordinate workflows and implement standards in the library management system and related external systems. Creates original and complex adaptive bibliographic records for library resources in multiple formats. Performs selected physical processing tasks, creates and maintains local documentation related to cataloging and database maintenance, and participates in library-wide activities or projects through service on library and university committees and working groups. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science. Experience with OCLC bibliographic utilities. Cataloging or metadata management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Knowledge of metadata standards, such as MARC21, RDA, AACR2, LRM/FRBR, LCSH, and LCC.
*Familiarity with principles of authority control
*Demonstrated understanding of current issues and emerging developments within the national cataloging environment, in particular, and within librarianship, in general
*Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment
*Excellent problem-solving, organization and time management skills
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
*Two or more years of cataloging experience
*Experience with Alma library management system
*Experience with non-MARC metadata (e.g., Dublin Core.)
*NACO training
*Training/experience in scripting or other database management automation or crosswalks (e.g., MarcEdit)
*Experience in batch processing MARC records, including batch loading and batch editing
*Demonstrated experience in training or documentation
*Knowledge of one or more languages other than English
Compensation:
Competitive salary and benefits package, including relocation allowance. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
