Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a metadata analyst to ensure our newsroom gets the most out of our new taxonomy system. This role will work with News Product, Analytics, Advertising and Operations teams to help glean new insights from our taxonomy and turn it into actionable newsroom intel. Specifically, this analyst will coordinate with the WaPo 360 Analytics team to integrate tagging and taxonomy into our analytics infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with the Audience team and the product editor to evaluate, analyze, distill and deliver new data.

 

The ideal candidate will develop reports and assess processes to support the taxonomy and tagging workflow, and work with the product editor to set and track metrics. As part of the taxonomy and metadata team, the metadata analyst may be tasked with tagging content to help maintain our tagging system and further expand our taxonomy. We are looking for a driven individual with a strong sense of curiosity who will provide invaluable audience insights to support our growth.

 

The candidate should have experience with Excel, Tableau and Google Analytics. This role will require a background in processing data from different sources into cohesive reports; using data to analyze content; prioritizing multiple, complex tasks; understanding metadata; and introducing new dashboards and other analytics tools. Experience in graph databases and complex taxonomies is a plus. Familiarity with the news media is helpful but not required.

 

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, the position will not be eligible for remote work.
