Description

Responsible for routine tasks related to the Library’s systems, subscription electronic resources and ILS administration. Oversee library Technical Services. Provide reference services and information literacy instruction classes. Participate in collection development. Design, create, and update library web pages. Actively participate in the development of policy and procedures with the entire library staff.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science, from an ALA-accredited institution. At least two years working in a library, with experience in technical services or administering electronic resources. Cataloging experience and knowledge of standards and best practices in cataloging. Experience with teaching or training. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Skilled in computing, productivity and collaboration tools. 

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English with a wide range of contacts. Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with all classifications of staff and people of diverse backgrounds to troubleshoot and solve technology and workflow issues. Possess a user-centered philosophy. Ability to learn new skills quickly and to manage multiple responsibilities and shifting priorities. Strong organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem solving and planning skills. Excellent customer service skills. Must be able to work respectfully and effectively with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

  • Experience administering ILS software, preferably in a consortial environment 
  • Experience in administering library subscription databases, including a discovery layer
  • Experience creating original catalog records
  • Experience using APIs in library systems
  • Experience using a content management system to create web pages
  • Experience with CSS, javascript, and usability testing
  • Experience using OCLC Connexion client
  • Experience configuring and administering EZProxy server software
  • Experience configuring and administering ILS acquisitions and serials modules
  • Experience working with open source software communities
  • Skilled in Perl, Ruby or other scripting languages
  • Skilled in Structured Query Language
  • Skilled in Unix/Linux
  • Comfortable in command line or console environments
  • Experience with Azure cloud services and Kubernetes
  • Experience creating statistical reports
  • Bilingual communication skills

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Learned physical skill or appropriate accommodation is required for keyboarding and operation of other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and sufficient hearing and well-developed speaking ability to communicate with staff and students, or appropriate accommodations. 

 

Work is performed in a highly active, open lab setting and instructional service area with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Area environment includes multiple background conversations and frequent interruptions.

Essential Duties:

Responsible for routine tasks related to ILS administration. Provide support to library employees in all aspects of the ILS software, including OPAC, circulation, cataloging, acquisitions, notifications, billing, and reports. Works with College Information Services to integrate library systems with college enterprise systems. Works with City of Albany IT staff, Information Services staff, and software support vendors to assure daily operations, software upgrades, and database maintenance. Represents LBCC in the Linn Libraries Consortium.

 

Responsible for planning, assessment, and implementation of the library’s cataloging and technical processing policies, procedures, and workflows. Assists with library acquisitions. Trains and oversees technical services staff. Responsible for batch loading and purging of library catalog records related to subscription resources. Performs original cataloging.

 

Responsible for the licensing, configuration/administration, and assessment of electronic resources. Participate in the selection, price negotiation, purchasing, and renewals of electronic resources. Collect and analyze usage statistics and create reports needed to manage electronic resources. Integrate the library’s online subscription content with other library online services/systems as well as the college’s learning management software and Community Archive (LB’s institutional repository). Provide outreach, marketing, and training for electronic resources.

 

Provide customer access support and troubleshoot issues as needed. Oversee issues related to access to electronic resources, including management and configuration of the Library’s proxy server and A to Z list. Serve as EZ proxy application administrator; handle technical configuration upgrades, configurations, and authorizations. 

 

Provide individual, class, and course-integrated information literacy instruction (both face-to-face and online) and conduct orientation tours as a part of the library’s regular instructional program. Create both print and online information literacy instructional materials and tutorials.

 

Provide in-person, telephone, and online reference services in a full range of levels and disciplines. Assist with the selection, configuration, and administration of online/electronic reference services. May provide evening and weekend reference service as scheduled.

 

Design, create, and update library web pages, including the library portal, using the library’s content management system (CMS).

 

Participate in collection development to meet the information needs of students and employees. Assist with the de-selection of library resources.

 

Work in a team environment to meet departmental goals and actively participate in the development of policy and procedures with entire library staff. Assist in budget decisions, evaluation of staff, assessment of services, long term planning and visioning. Function as departmental liaison for instructional divisions/programs as assigned. Represent the department/division at appropriate meetings both within the college and with off-campus groups/organizations. May be required to travel, especially to LBCC centers.

 

Trains other library employees in procedures and best practices related to the ILS, electronic resources, and technical services. 

 

Maintain familiarity with and knowledge of current and emerging issues in library technologies and their applications, electronic resources, library technical services, course management software, and web-based technologies. Participate in relevant and agreed upon conferences.
