Job Description
The BU Libraries Director of Library Technology and Discovery Services (LTDS) coordinates the administration, implementation, and advancement of the library’s collection management and discovery platforms and oversees the library’s Web environment, which includes the library website and the associated tools used to extend knowledge services and information to BU’s research and learning communities.
Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Digital Strategies and Innovations, the LTDS director serves as an organizational leader and partner with campus stakeholders in adopting, implementing, assessing, and maintaining additional tools and platforms for discovery and management of library resources. In this new role at BU, the Director will be instrumental in developing and managing a team comprising technologists, platform administrators, and content strategists to advance innovative approaches that connect the BU scholarly community with the resources and expertise of the library system.
This position also supplies expertise and works collaboratively with staff in BU’s Information Services & Technology (IS&T) department and with partners across the university to promote the effective use of library-specific platforms and approaches for resource discovery and knowledge sharing. The director further serves as a catalyst for advancing BU Libraries’ capacity as a digital services organization in connection with the university’s 2030 plan. The incoming director may have experience or will quickly become familiar with the Alma/Primo integrated library system and associated workflows for online access and information management in place at BU.
Required Skills
- Master’s degree in information systems, library science, or other relevant field.
- 5-8 years of relevant experience.
