Job Title: Systems Administrator II

Job Summary:

System Administrator II’s primary responsibility for administration and maintenance of all University Libraries services running on Library servers. Primary responsibility for security and accessibility of Library network in cooperation with IT Services. Assesses. anticipates, and recommends configuration of services running on Library servers. Maintains name server, DHCP static configurations in conjunction with IT Services.

Duties/Physical Demands:

The following duties all require a high degree of independence and ability to make mission critical decisions. This position is responsible for actively maintaining, developing, modifying and supporting Library online assets by having primary responsibility for maintaining Library servers including:
• building, documenting, maintaining, upgrading and ensuring current security posture on all Library servers housed at Miami University and on Amazon Web Services.
• maintaining current records of all Miami University Libraries server assets.
• having active knowledge of Git as it relates to provisioning of servers.
• using Puppet to enforce server configurations and code base.
• maintaining name server and DHCP static configurations in conjunction with IT Services.
• Identifying ways to effectively use technology to bring efficiencies to Library services and products at scale.
• Developing and running programs and scripts to automate, extract information and perform routine functions and tasks.
• Using monitoring tools, as needed, check for performance and stability in the Libraries Technology infrastructure.
• Having primary responsibility for providing support for all services running on Library
maintained servers including:
• developing server scripts that are needed in support of Library applications
• building, documenting, maintaining, upgrading and ensuring current security posture on all services running on Library servers.
• Actively pursue trends in the industry and professional development trends.
• Having primary responsibility for supporting access to Library off campus resources including:
• Maintaining, enhancing and servicing EZproxy access of Library databases to off campus users.
• Maintaining and servicing Inter Library Loan applications.
• Having responsibility for providing assistance to Librarians regarding:
• development of Library specific applications including assistance with programming and scripting.
• backend support for Libraries Web services including scripting, network protocols and other essential tasks.
• Sharing responsibility with Director of Library IT and Library Technology Development.
• Manager for providing advice regarding development of new Library Services.
• Sharing responsibility with members of the Library IT team for responding to Library
TeamDynamix tickets.
• In conjunction with central IT, explore the transfer and expansion of Technology infrastructure.
• May occasionally teach one credit bearing course on an as needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, minimum of two years of experience working with LAMP systems, minimum of six months experience with Git, minimum of six months experience working with databases such as SQL. This position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.
