As Digital Preservation Librarian, the incumbent will sustain and further develop the Libraries’ digital preservation program, set strategic directions based on emerging best practices, and ensure the long-term viability of the libraries’ digital assets. They will establish strategy, policies, procedures, and best practices for the long-term access, management, and preservation of digital content and collections. The position collaborates across multiple Library departments and with campus and partner institutions in Arizona to implement digital strategies, policies, processes, system requirements, and partnerships around the long-term preservation of assets under the Libraries’ stewardship. The role guides and implements preservation best practices and workflow integration between systems across the libraries to enable long-lived digital objects. This position will also have the opportunity to develop new service models for web archiving and born-digital media preservation through the Digital Preservation Lab. Key stakeholders for collaboration include Special Collections and Technology Strategy & Services within the Libraries, cultural heritage institutions on campus, our consortial partners at Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University, and partners affiliated with APTrust.

As Unit Lead, the incumbent will oversee activities associated with both the digital preservation lab and the digital production lab. The Unit Lead will be responsible for shaping a programmatic vision for digital production and stewardship of digitized and born-digital content in consultation with library and campus colleagues. This is a new unit for the University of Arizona Libraries, and it is expected that the successful candidate will dedicate concerted effort at the start of their tenure on service set up and development. Unit Lead responsibilities will be allocated at approximately 20% FTE and will include managing unit operations as well as supervising 3 staff members who comprise the unit (a digital production manager, a digital preservation technician, and a digital production technician). This position will report to the head of Collection Services and collaborate with colleagues across the Libraries to foster support for digital stewardship at the University of Arizona Libraries.

This is a continuing-eligible or continuing track, academic professional position. Incumbents are members of the general faculty and are entitled to all accompanying rights and privileges granted by the Arizona Board of Regents and the University of Arizona.
