The Princeton University Library (PUL) seeks an experienced and dynamic individual to implement a robust assessment program that will provide insights to help inform strategic decisions and priorities.

PUL is one of the world's leading research libraries, serving a diverse community of 5,200 undergraduates, 2,700 graduate students, 1,200 faculty members, and many visiting scholars. We employ a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of more than 300 professional and support staff working in a large central library, nine specialized branches, and three storage facilities.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Director for Library Assessment will design and lead a program to conduct both ongoing and targeted assessment of Library services. They lead, design, and participate in the collection, analysis, and documentation of quantitative and qualitative assessment data which will help the library administration make informed, data-driven decisions about services and priorities. Additionally, they will coordinate the work of library colleagues engaged in improving the user experience while helping to create a culture that leverages data to make service improvements. This role reports to the Deputy University Librarian.

Requirements

  • Experience assessing services in libraries or similar cultural heritage institutions, with an aim to continually improve those services.

  • Demonstrated experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis, evaluation, and reporting

  • Excellent communication skills including a proven ability to understand, evaluate, and make recommendations to high-level leadership staff

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a complex library organization with a strong customer service orientation.

  • Sophisticated analytical/problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Experience managing small teams and coordinating collaborative projects
