Junior Systems Administrator/Programmer
Description
The River Campus Libraries (RCL) of the University of Rochester (UR) is creating a unique opportunity to welcome a junior systems administrator/programmer into the Digital Initiatives department. This position is designed as a career development role for a person early in their IT career, wishing to develop skills in LINUX administration, the DevOps framework, programming and application development, and supporting library enterprise systems.
The position contributes to supporting, developing, integrating, and administering core library servers, services and platforms. As a member of this team, you will work with a modern DevOps approach to build continuous improvement of operational practices, system reliability, and cost-effectiveness of a diverse portfolio of academic library platforms and services
The Libraries has a mix of cloud-hosted and on-premise servers, and is involved in major strategic initiatives centered around discovery and access, scholarly impact and bibliometrics, Open Educational Resources (OER), and emerging technologies like XR/AR. Digital Initiatives also manages a range of enterprise systems including Alma (ILS), Primo, Preservica, ILLiad, Omeka, and ArchivesSpace.
This position reports to the Director of Digital Strategies and will balance their time across the functional work of the department including systems administration, programming and application efforts, and library enterprise systems support. The successful candidate for this junior library systems administrator/programmer position will also participate in technical mentorship and professional development within the department and with a small Community of Practice with additional Libraries IT staff.
