Digital Library Software Developer, Digital Infrastructure Team (2 positions)

Stanford University Libraries is seeking two software developers—an entry- to mid-level backend software engineer and a mid- to senior-level full-stack software engineer—to join the Digital Infrastructure team within Digital Library Systems and Services (DLSS), the technology division of Stanford Libraries. DLSS is a dynamic team of technologists and information professionals defining the future library. DLSS is an internationally recognized technology program developing innovative solutions to advance teaching, learning, and research at one of the world’s leading universities. The Digital Infrastructure team, a crucial contributor to Stanford’s digital library, will be expanding support for Stanford’s new Open Access Policy by delivering high-value services for faculty, for access to scholarly information, and for open scholarship. In addition, this team develops and maintains applications, tools and APIs to enable online management, processing, and preservation of the collections within the Stanford Digital Repository (SDR) which lies at the heart of Stanford’s digital library.

You will be contributing to the Digital Infrastructure team’s entire portfolio, including projects with external partners, by working closely with colleagues who are software engineers, user experience designers, and service managers. You will also work with colleagues to ensure that our applications and services meet accessibility, security, performance, and reliability guidelines and best practices. Utilizing, implementing and developing open standards and open source software will be part of the work of the position. Including the two new positions, the Digital Infrastructure team comprises ten software engineers and one user experience designer.

We are looking for a backend software engineer who has a passion for implementation and technical design of applications and APIs, and a full-stack software engineer who is skilled at front-end development and at translating wireframes into attractive, functional, modern full-stack applications. Successful candidates will be eager to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies, to analyze and manipulate textual data, to identify and troubleshoot bugs within complex interrelated applications, and to work on a team that strives to follow and evolve best practices, often with incremental improvements. These positions are part of the Digital Infrastructure Team within Digital Library Systems and Services, and are based on the main Stanford campus. More information regarding core duties and qualifications can be found on each of the two postings:

• Requisition 90733: Full-Stack Software Developer 2-3 (mid-level to senior; fixed term for 2 years)
• Requisition 90734: Backend Software Developer 1-2 (entry- to mid-level; fixed term for 2 years)

Starting salary ranges are $90,000-$140,000 based on experience and location. We support remote workers, and full-time remote candidates located within the United States are encouraged to apply.
