Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (ITS)                                  

 

As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer in the Information Technology Services (ITS) department, you will support the Libraries’ vision of building and supporting an open global platform for knowledge creation and sharing through an infrastructure-as-code (IaC) approach to managing technology infrastructure. Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure Engineering, the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will continue the build out of our cloud infrastructure; optimize, monitor, and scale platform infrastructure; and configure and deploy new workloads in the cloud. You’ll use Terraform, Ansible, and other IaC tools together with a DevOps mindset to establish automated pipelines, immutable infrastructure, and repeatable deployments. You will join a team committed to continuous learning, open communication, shared responsibility, and collaborative problem solving. This role can be filled by a fully remote employee.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

·        Building, configuring, documenting, and deploying infrastructure and systems supporting library services

·        Developing, managing, and testing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, Git, and other tools

·        Supporting, monitoring, optimizing, and troubleshooting infrastructure with a focus on automated solutions

·        Solving business and technical problems in collaboration with colleagues from technology teams and functional stakeholders

·        Exhibiting empathy, acknowledging shortcomings, and collaborating with others to improve the team cohesiveness and performance

·        Implementing automated delivery pipelines to ensure timely delivery of applications, systems, infrastructure, and related updates

·        Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships within the team, among the department, and across the organization

·        Participating in the rotation for on-call duties with other team members

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required:

 

●       Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, preferably in computer science or technology management, or relevant combination of education and experience

●       Minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical role, supporting IT infrastructure in a complex environment

●       Strong understanding of virtual servers, cloud-native applications, networks, firewalls, load balancers, etc.

●       Experience with cloud technologies, preferably AWS cloud

●       Excellent verbal and written communication skills

●       Good understanding of and experience with IT security and data protection

●       Development skills with Terraform and Ansible

●       Experience with Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices

●       Understanding of AWS cloud platform

 

Preferred:

 

●       Experience developing software delivery, DevOps, and agile practices/methodologies (AWS, GitHub Actions, TravisCI, Terraform, Packer, and Ansible)

●       Software development skill with at least one of the following: Java, Ruby, Go, Python

●       Familiarity with at least one of the following: Solr, Zookeeper, Kafka, Blacklight, or Elasticsearch

●       Experience building and deploying containers, especially in AWS Fargate and EKS

●       Familiarity with Project Management methodologies, and experience in a project technical lead role

●       Experience working in a higher education environment

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS: The target hiring range for this position is: $90,000- $110,000

Actual salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
