Digital Archives Specialist
Description
The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) needs 2,000 hours of professional, non-personal, work-for-hire archival technical services to aid with digital archival and conservation activities, documenting, and collection care activities for digital archival collections. The contractor will focus first on several collections of digital files on NMAAHC’s servers as well as files critically at-risk due to aging formats, among them 3 1⁄2 inch and 5 1⁄4 inch floppy disks, zip disks, CDs, DVDs, and hard drives. The contactor will assist in setting up workflows for both disk imaging and the processing of digital files. The contractor will process the files using the BitCurator suite of software tools. Importance will be placed on the iterative documenting, testing and quality control of workflows and attention to detail while performing those tasks. The contractor will also be occasionally responsible for scholarly, academic research related to collections content and provenance. The period of performance for these services shall be between approximately September 15, 2021 and September 14, 2022.
We encourage all applicants who may be interetsted in the job to apply. Please don't let the Federal application process discourage you!
