DEFINITION
Performs professional level duties managing the local area network system in accordance with established library policies and procedures for the Missoula Public Library.  

REPRESENTATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Provides leadership and expertise in information technology and computer resources.  Plans and recommends future integration of computerized technologies with the library’s mission and functions. Responsible for the operation, coordination and maintenance of all computers and information systems, including infrastructure, security, hardware, software, and on-line resources. Evaluates hardware and software products and recommends purchases consistent with short- and long-term objectives. Performs routine system maintenance to include regular system backups; troubleshoots and repairs network and servers in a mixed Windows/Linux environment. Plans, coordinates, and implements upgrades to existing resources and systems. Develops and recommends library policy on electronic communication and computer resource access and use. Maintains web, email, database, and instant messenger servers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required. Degrees best suited to this position are Computer Science and Computer Information Systems. Associate degree in computer science or equivalent certification from a recognized program plus extended experience directly related to system administration may be considered. Requires four years of experience in information systems management which includes experience in the design and operation of networking systems and working with VLANs and Virtual servers. Experience with Linux, and administering online resources is desirable. Experience in a library environment desired.
 
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:   MCSE or CNE certification required.  Windows Server, Mikrotik, Aruba and security certifications desired.    

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

Normal work week is Sunday through Saturday; some evening hours will be required. The employee commonly remains in an office setting and the work requires intermittent light physical activity with occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds in weight), carrying and movement of carts (up to 30 to 40 pounds exerted force). Requires occasional stooping, bending and climbing ladders.
