Position Summary

JWA is looking for a digital archivist to organize its oral history collections and help build a searchable catalogue on its site. With nearly five hundred stories collected over its twenty-five-year history, JWA is ready to embark on this next phase of making the collections searchable for use by educators, researchers, and lifelong learners. The ideal candidate for this role has a keen understanding of digital archiving best practices, experience with project coordination, and an interest in Jewish women’s history.

Primary Responsibilities

·       Organize and catalogue JWA’s oral history collections

·       Create systems for ongoing collection, preservation, and curation of materials

·       Help coordinate migration of materials from JWA’s servers to its website

·       In partnership with JWA’s web developer, create searchable catalogue of oral history materials on JWA’s site

·       Work with JWA content experts to curate and share materials

·       Help promote JWA’s oral history collections and story collecting methods to encourage the public to add their own stories to the Archive

Qualifications

·       Hands on experience working with digital archives and cataloguing oral history collections

·       Understanding of preservation best practices and their practical applications

·       Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented

·       Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and meet established deadlines

·       Interest in the history of Jewish women and feminism

·       MA in Library and Information Science, or similar (or equivalent training)

·       Experience with data migration a plus

·       Knowledge of Drupal a plus

Compensation/Benefits

This is a temporary part-time position and the hourly rate is $35/hour. We anticipate the Digital Archivist will work between 20-30 hours per week, for approximately six to nine months.
