DUTIES: 
This position is a senior level manager in charge of information technology and enterprise systems for the Chicago Public Library. The Director of Library Technology will work with other senior library managers to ensure that technology aligns with library goals and services and sets the library’s technology initiatives within the library and promoting innovation, process improvement, security and identity and access management and effectiveness.  Responsibilities include leading library technology futures visioning and strategic technology planning to achieve library goals. Lead process to prioritize technology initiatives and coordinates the evaluation, deployment and management of current and future technologies. Collaborates with library departments to develop and maintain a technology plan that supports library programs and operational needs. Acts as primary liaison and advocate for the library’s technology vision via regular, written and in person communications with senior management, department heads and staff. Identify, assess and communicate innovative technology- related investments, programs and purchases. Develops business case justifications and cost/benefit analysis for technology implementations and communicate them to key library stakeholders. Lead governance process to approve and prioritize technology and projects.  Collaborate and reach out to partners, technology companies, educational institutions, nonprofits and foundations, vendors, city and others.  Motivate and manage IT staff to ensure continuous delivery of effective and efficient technology services.  Monitor performance through the use of service level agreements, automated systems monitoring and measures. Establish services metrics that align with library requirements and goals that show value to patrons. Manage, track and control technology operating and capital budgets for purchasing and operations. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree plus five years of work experience in managing technology services, of which three years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, provided that the minimum degree requirement is met.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
Master's degree in Library Science, Computer Science or related field plus 4 years of experience managing technology services in a large library system, museum, government agency, educational institution or a related environment within the technology sector.

Residency Requirement:
All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.

LOCATION: 400 S. State Street - Harold Washington Library Center-Finance and Administration Department
DAYS OFF: Saturday and Sunday (May be required to be on call evenings and weekends)
SHIFT: Monday-Friday 9:00 - 5:00
HOURS: 35 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours
