Posting Title:  College Archivist 

Branch/Division/Department:  Library Services 

General Position Responsibilities:  This position leads the curation and operations of the JCCC archives at Billington Library. 

Specific Position Responsibilities: 
Responsibilities include:
  • Developing the college archives and collections
  • Working with donors to preserve and organize their collections
  • Curating the college's patents collection
  • Fully incorporating digital access and preservation into the JCCC archives
  • Operating the archives during open hours
  • Budget development and planning
  • Appraising transferred/donated materials, as well as working directly with donors
  • Processing, handling, conserving, creating metadata, and utilizing metadata standards to catalog archive items according to best practices of the Society of American Archivists and Association of College and Research Libraries
  • Serving as a liaison to campus and larger community
  • Developing and executing a plan for promoting the archives collection and access, both physically and online
  • Collaborating with other archive staff in completing duties and establishing guidelines for item and records management
  • Creating and leading initiatives to grow JCCC archives into a leading community college archives
  • Leading assessment initiatives for the archives 
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Information Science or Library Science, Archiving, or similar degree with specialty in archives management from an ALA-accredited program
  • Significant experience in an archive, digital collection, manuscript collection, museum, or other records preservation environment
  • Knowledge of MARC, DACS, AACR2, Dublin Core, VRACore, and digital cataloging/metadata assignment for use in web
  • Experience in digital curation of text and images
  • Experience in developing and maintaining archival collections
  • Strong interpersonal skills for work with donors and the public
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Leadership, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with an enterprise digital repository system.
  • Experience working in an educational institution
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in appraising
  • Experience in digital curation of audio and film
  • Experience in writing grants and administering access agreements
