Texas A&M University-Kingsville seeks a service-oriented librarian to manage the Library's cataloging/metadata unit, and to serve as technical manager of the Library's state federal depository programs. This full time, faculty position reports to the Head of Technical Services and supervises two full-time positions.This position manages descriptive and subject access to print, media, and digital materials using current cataloging and metadata standards; provides guidance and advice on cataloging and metadata procedures; reviews work-flow and suggests appropriate changes; determines ways and means of managing digital collections; manages authority control; and generally supervises and maintains the quality of the catalog. Stays abreast of trends in metadata and cataloging, investigates and recommends solutions for special projects, and supervises technical aspects of the Library's documents depository programs. Participates in Library-wide activities, including committee work and occasional reference desk duty, including occasional weekend duty.
Education: MLS or equivalent from an American Library Association-accredited program from a regionally accredited institution or university required.
Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of current metadata and cataloging standards and tools such as Dublin Core, AACR2-R, LCRI, LCSH, MARC formats, EAD, and RDA. Familiar with the technical aspects of government document depository programs. Experience with integrated library systems, bibliographic utilities (OCLC) and other computer-based resources which support cataloging operations. Working knowledge of office suite applications. Selected candidate must pass a pre-employment background investigation to be hired for this position. Three years professional experience in cataloging, metadata, or government documents preferred.
