Situated on the Gulf Coast of Florida and Sarasota Bay, New College (www.ncf.edu ) is a nationally recognized, selective public honors college with a 10:1 student/faculty ratio. Students are intellectually independent and highly motivated. Undergraduate research has a central role in the curriculum, and a senior thesis/project is required of all students. Located on the campus of New College of Florida, the Jane Bancroft Cook Library is a shared service of New College of Florida & the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee and is a highly collaborative organization. Cook Library faculty and staff are employees of New College of Florida. New College is searching for a collaborative, inquisitive, and innovative person to serve as Research, Instruction and Data Services Librarian. Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the Research, Instruction and Data Services Librarian assists with the planning and implementation of information literacy services and leads the development and delivery of data services. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to establish a data services program that will help drive the strategic mission of the Library in a period of institutional growth. The Research, Instruction and Data Services Librarian will work both independently and collaboratively with a team of librarians and staff to provide data services and instruction and research consultation services to students, faculty and staff. This librarian serves as the liaison for Cook Library to faculty and staff. This librarian is also expected to provide services to the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee students, faculty and staff. Under the direction of the Dean of the Library, this librarian will participate fully in the overall administration of the Library, including long-range planning, program and services development & evaluation, and the establishment of departmental policies.

 

Responsibilities

Share Information Services duties, including instruction and reference consultation services.
Serve as Library liaison for faculty and staff.
Contribute to the Cook Library information literacy program, including developing lesson plans/learning objectives, providing classroom instruction, collaborating with librarians on shared Information Literacy outcomes, preparing LibGuides (or other format of guides), and contributing information/providing instruction via the course management system.
Provide reference and instruction services for New College of Florida and the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee students and faculty.
Leverage technologies in instruction and information services, especially as they relate to data services.
Apply knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, technologies, and methods of access to scholarly resources with a strong service orientation.
Conduct and apply research and best practices in the areas of academic library data services, statistical data analysis, GIS, data visualization, research data management, and digital scholarship.
Participate in collection development activities.
Participate in long-range planning for the Jane Bancroft Cook Library.
Provide leadership for library projects and activities.
Participate in change management leadership within the organization.
Effectively represent the Jane Bancroft Cook Library on campus, statewide, regional and national committees as appropriate.
Develop programs, seminars, workshops, etc. offered to the general campus community.
Professional contribution efforts are expected of all library faculty, including, but not restricted to research, presentation, publication, active service on committees and state and national library organizations
Additional duties as assigned by the Dean of Cook Library.

Minimum Qualifications

MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program
Undergraduate or master’s degree and/or professional experience in a subject discipline.
Knowledge and instructional experience with research databases and resources.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with metadata schema as they relate to data.
Possess an understanding of current trends and services in librarianship.
Well versed in scholarly communication issues
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
Enthusiasm for exploring new technologies coupled with an ability to identify and implement practical library and e-research applications
Demonstrated initiative and creativity
Strong project management and analytical skills
Willingness to change with the organization
Demonstrated ability to learn new skills, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Experience with course management systems, preferably Canvas
Experience with programming languages, especially R and Python
Knowledge of data visualization technologies
Experience using statistical analysis software, including SAS
Knowledge of best practices for data visualization
Knowledge of intellectual property issues
Knowledge of data management issues and technologies
Familiarity with best practices for data storage
Experience with using data as a resource
Effective oral and written communication skills
Experience working in an academic library
Knowledge of online library systems; awareness of emerging trends and library technologies and the ability to learn and adapt these technologies
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, demonstrated problem-solving workflow analysis and project leadership skills
Ability to instruct library users in person, in group settings and virtually
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty
Knowledge of 21st century services and technologies
Experience with e-learning and virtual instruction design

Additional Information

Librarians at New College are non-tenure earning faculty. This position will be appointed at the assistant, associate and full librarian rank, depending on experience and qualifications.
