Description

Union Institute & University, a national university for adult students offering programs of study leading to bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees is seeking an experienced individual for a combination Systems/Reference Librarian position at its Cincinnati, OH headquarters.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Management and maintenance of library automation technologies including proxy server, EOS integrated library system, research database web links, link resolver tools, ILLIAD, and other electronic resources and utilities
  • Serve as the primary library technical support contact for externally hosted research database and other library vendor electronic resources, online subscriptions, and utilities
  • Design and maintain the library website and troubleshoot library software and network/server problems
  • Work to bring new technologies to library staff and users and provide training in same
  • Sharing in the provision of library reference and instructional services
  • Serving on appropriate university committees/task forces
  • Assisting in collection development efforts
Requirements:
  • An ALA-accredited Masters in Library Science degree
  • Several years professional experience in library systems and automation technologies, preferably in a college or university setting
  • Excellent library technology knowledge and skills including, but not limited to, strong familiarity with current information/library technology systems software and instructional support applications, proxy server software, link resolver and other web-based library applications, online database searching, design of instructional support materials
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills, and a commitment to the principles and practices of online pedagogy and information literacy
  • Ability to work with diverse student, faculty and staff
  • Excellent research, teaching, presentation, and communication skills
  • Experience in, and preference for, working in an online academic library environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Ability to travel to UI&U academic centers as necessary
