Clifton M. Miller Library at Washington College invites applications for the position of Director of Access Services. The successful candidate must have at least three years access services experience in an academic library with two years in a supervisory capacity. A commitment to excellence in academic librarianship and the ideals of liberal arts education, particularly in promoting and facilitating discovery through critical thinking and research competency at the undergraduate level is highly desirable. The Director of Access Services reports to the College Librarian and is responsible for providing leadership in and management of the Access Services Department with responsibilities for circulation, interlibrary loan, and reference.The position supervises 2 FTE staff and 18-20 student workers. The chosen applicant will collaborate closely with other librarians in providing reference services, teaching information literacy classes, supporting collection development, acting as liaison to assigned departments, and participating in the planning and initiatives of the library leadership team. Some evening and occasional weekend hours are required. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position.
Qualifications: ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library or Information Science required. Also required are strong managerial and supervisory skills; experience with an integrated library system, electronic resource management system, and website design; strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; commitment to the improvement of access services; ability to work in a collaborative environment and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with a variety of individuals, including staff, faculty, students, and the general public; ability to work independently, calmly manage stressful situations and trouble-shoot technology issues. The candidate should have a demonstrated interest in electronic collection development and commitment to professional development and service.
Miller Library just completed an $8 million renovation project and anticipates an increase in use and a renewed commitment to the critical role of the library in the academic life of the College.
