The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries seeks an experienced and collaborative Archivist to join the Special Collections and University Archives Department as a member of the curatorial team with a primary curatorial and outreach assignment focusing on the university and greater Reno/Sparks communities. The Community and University Archivist (CUA) serves a vital role in assisting the University to foster its unique identity and sense of place, and document its significance to Nevada, the region, and the world. The CUA Archivist is responsible for appraisal of materials in all formats and will provide leadership and expertise in the Libraries’ efforts to document and preserve the history, activities, and impact of significant topical areas and regional communities. All members of the curatorial team are to seek out archival materials that add diverse voices and experiences to the department’s collections. The CUA will be a collaborative, innovative, analytical, and organized member of the department, working with a wide range of staff, campus, and community partners to develop and promote the collections and the archives in support of teaching, research, and learning. The CUA is aware of and participates in national and regional theoretical, conceptual, and practical developments in the field of archival studies, and cultivates external impact in the form of service to the profession and original research.

Required Qualifications

A MLIS or related degree and three years of related professional work experience. Related experience: with archival appraisal and donor relations, born-digital archival materials, archival policy writing, archival collections management, and/or assessment of intellectual property rights pertaining to archival materials in a major research university.
