Senior Software Engineer for Digital Libraries
Description
The University of Virginia is looking for a Senior Software Engineer for Digital Libraries to join the Library Information Technology team. Senior Software Engineer for Digital Libraries will create, enhance and maintain web application services that give patrons a way to store scholarly work and access library resources. With an emphasis on Ruby-on-Rails programming, the library applications support the access, description and ingest of scholarly work in a Fedora Commons repository through the Samvera technology stack as well as access to Library resources leveraging Blacklight technology.
The incumbent will develop and maintain software, conduct performance tuning and maintain production systems. The incumbent collaborates with team members and other Library developers to support production services, community driven open source communities and to engage in long term, highly complex programming assignments with significant latitude to devise approaches best suited to project goals.
This position joins other information technology staff in contributing to the Library's goal of being a central and responsive partner in the research, teaching, and learning priorities of the University of Virginia.
Position Compensation Range: $67,000 - $100,000 Annually
Minimum Requirements:
A minimum of four (4) years of demonstrated experience in software design and development
At least one year of development experience with Ruby-on-Rails
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or related discipline. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Knowledge of model-view-controller code organization and object oriented design
Demonstrated experience developing web server applications
Preferred requirements:
Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, TeamCity, Samvera, Solr, Fedora Repository, GitHub/GitLab, digital object formats and library metadata standards
Familiarity with front-end enviroment (HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript/jQuery, etc.)
Experience with cloud based software development
