Content Management and Preservation is looking for a Sr. Media Librarian to join our Data Management team, based in Toronto, to build and maintain taxonomies and ontologies to support the Semantic Platform, which supports content production, presentation and preservation.
In this role, you will contribute to the department’s strategic goal of improving the overall quality of metadata within our organization. Better metadata is essential in order to enhance the audience experience on digital platforms, allowing us to better tailor our content offering to targeted user segments.
You will also endeavour to improve the searchability and discoverability of media assets in our various production and preservation systems, spanning the entire content lifecycle, from the moment raw material is ingested into our servers to the point where content is packaged and presented to audiences.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Data Management, you will apply metadata standards to improve information architecture, and the related systems and processes. You will collaborate with stakeholders in technology solutions and support, as well as client groups, to ensure that our metadata practices and systems are performing optimally.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- You possess a solid understanding of information management principles, including ontologies and taxonomies, metadata schemas, industry-accepted standards, best practices and their practical application.
- You can speak with authority on current issues in the field of knowledge management, including trends within the industry, emerging approaches to workflow and best practices in metadata management.
- You have demonstrated experience with utilizing content and metadata management platforms in order to create descriptive elements for digital content.
- You understand the importance of proper metadata management and how it benefits media asset management in a production environment, as well as how it can improve audience engagement on digital platforms, and you are able to translate this into a well-defined set of controlled terms to allow for accurate and consistent description of our content.
- You can point to past experience that demonstrates your ability to help stakeholders understand the importance of tagging and work with them to help grow the our controlled vocabulary to meet their needs for insights into content performance and to help support content personalization initiatives.
- You take pride in helping support content creators and other stakeholders in getting the most out of our Semantic Platform and would find satisfaction in learning about our evolving digital content offering and identifying opportunities to help support our digital strategy through improvements to our Semantic Platform.
- You have earned an advanced degree in the field of Information Science and possess a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in information management.
