Reporting to the University Chief Information Officer, the Managing Director is a member of the Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) senior leadership team and is responsible as a senior partner, advisor and provider of IT services to the Harvard Library (HL). Follows priorities and direction of Harvard Library leadership and works in partnership with the Associate University Librarian for Digital Strategies and Innovations and the HUIT Managing Director of Academic Technology Services. Serves as a member of the Harvard Library Leadership team.

LTS provides essential, university-wide library information systems, infrastructure and expertise that enable the Harvard Library to advance this important mission.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver large-scale, resilient, and user-friendly technologies that support essential library management and patron-facing services.
2. Under the strategic direction of Harvard Library, provide innovative technologies to enable teaching, learning, and research.
3. Lead and manage the LTS organization, ensuring staff have the right tools, resources, and training to do their best work.
4. Foster partnerships with other Harvard and external constituencies in support of Harvard Library mission.
Basic Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree required.
•At least 10 years of demonstrated, progressively responsible leadership experience in academic library, higher education or a related research or information access enterprise (to include 8+ years of managerial experience).
Additional Qualifications:
Graduate degree such as MLS, MIS, MS/MA or PhD in a relevant subject preferred. The successful candidate will bring a deep knowledge of technology, the IT landscape, challenges and service delivery. A strong understanding of and commitment to research libraries and their mission, including awareness of knowledge of data curation, digital preservation and digital scholarship developments, is highly desirable. Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to bring innovative and complex projects to completion in a timely manner. S/he should have the ability to foresee and articulate the short and long-term ramifications of technology decisions; successful experience in leading and implementing change. S/he should have a demonstrated record of relationship-building, collaboration and excellent communication skills. S/he Should have the ability to manage an operation within a high degree of complexity in a culture of distributed power and authority.
