UC San Diego Library is hiring a Metadata Specialist!  We’re looking for an individual who is enthusiastic about working with complex research data, to help drive us forward in our work. While the position is classified as a librarian, we’re interested in applicants from a range of experience and domains, and are open to folks from non-traditional backgrounds.

 

The Metadata Specialist works within the Research Data Curation and Metadata Services Programs, and works collaboratively with a number of other programs in the Library, including the Digital Library Development and IT Services Programs. The primary duties are to provide metadata support and advice to researchers and other data owners in preparing and submitting their data collections for ingest into the Library’s digital infrastructure.

 

In addition, the successful candidate will help us shape current and future metadata practices for a wide range of complex research data. UC San Diego is a large research-intensive campus, with data being generated from an array of domains and disciplines. The Library works closely with many researchers and research labs, and is at the forefront of curation and repository services on campus.

 

The person will also have the opportunity to provide community leadership, as metadata for digital materials is actively shared with a number of other national systems and services.
