Miami University Libraries seeks a creative and user-oriented colleague for the position of Web Services Librarian. This position collaborates with a team that leads the Libraries’ efforts to enhance its virtual spaces by working closely with other Library departments to develop and expand online library services. This team takes leadership in setting direction for the Libraries’ web presence including design, implementation and maintenance; selection, implementation, and maintenance of web-based library tools; usability of web services and products and developing and delivering training for web based products and services. Entry level candidates that have experience with web development and web design are encouraged to apply. The qualified candidate will enjoy a fantastic opportunity to grow in an exciting and ever expanding field. Experience performing usability studies is especially helpful. The position includes the ability to understand user needs and help translate them into the Libraries web presence. The position reports to the Director of Library Systems.
Duties/Physical Demands:
In a strong team environment, this position collaborates with other team members in the following:
The development, management and assessment of the library’s online presence;
Provides support for library personnel with the development of online learning and research support tools, and web content;
Performs usability testing and interprets findings to inform changes and development of new features;
Supports web team with website accessibility audits and tracks website usage
Supports development for web based products and services;
Investigates current technologies to improve access and delivery of digital resources and services;
Works creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently and to promote teamwork among colleagues;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in library or information science
Familiarity with website design and/or development and experience with HTML and CSS
Familiarity with web authoring tools and content management systems
Familiarity with usability design, including responsive web design
Familiarity with web analytics and assessment tools and methodologies
Familiarity with current web accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG 2.0)
Familiarity with current web technologies
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Flexibility and adaptability for work in an evolving, fast-paced, changing environment
Ability to meet the criteria for continuing contract and promotion described in the Librarians' Appointment, Rank, and Promotion System (LARPS). Rank dependent upon qualifications at appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Project management skills
Experience working in a large academic or research library
Experience working in a team environment
Strong interest in emerging technologies and general trends in librarianship and higher education
Familiarity with web APIs and mobile technologies
Familiarity with web applications in a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Python) environment
Motivation to learn new technologies and web development skills
