Reports to: Dean for Student Development
Position: Regular, Full-Time
Salary Range: $65,900.00-$70,500.00 Annually
Status: Exempt

Fielding Graduate University seeks a Director of Library Services to support university student development. Fielding’s headquarters are located in Santa Barbara, CA.
SUMMARY
The Director of Library Services is responsible for the development and implementation of Fielding’s library policies, resources, services, and strategic plan. This position serves as the spokesperson for the library to Fielding’s administration, faculty, students, staff, and alumni. The Director of Library Services signs and provides library-related outreach and consultations to this same group and supervises full and part-time library staff. This position will provide reference and instruction.
Coordinates opportunities with Fielding’s academic program directors and identifies and acquires needed library resources and services. Prepares and maintains budget, purchases/licenses library resources and services from external vendors and consortia.
The Director of Library Services keeps abreast of emerging technical and financial models for providing access to digital library materials. The position will implement measurements of service and resource usage. Edits and maintain library’s stand-alone website and troubleshoots technical problems. Catalogs the collection using Serials Solutions and edits the library newsletter.
This position will prepare reports about Library Services for Board of Trustees and accrediting agencies and build and maintain beneficial relationships with external organizations and professional communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
The position requires a Master’s degree in Library (Information) Science/Studies or Librarianship from ALA-accredited institution. An undergraduate or graduate degree in social/behavioral sciences is highly desirable. At least three years’ experience in a higher education environment is preferred with at least two years’ experience in a
distance/distributed education environment, an entirely virtual library/information center, or a library/information center with significant virtual resources and services components. Experience supervising and managing staff, budgets, and resources, and setting up and configuring library/information systems will be a plus. Experience working with library consortia helpful.
The ideal candidate will possess a professional, collaborative, and upbeat approach to their work. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines are essential to success in the role. Working knowledge of complex information systems and ability to build and/or improve systems. An ability to effectively communicate using teleconferencing systems and Internet-based tools such as Chat Messenger (such as Zoom), fluency in a Windows environment. Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, PhotoShop and Adobe Acrobat is required. Understanding the scholarly publishing environment, including the roles and relationships of authors, publishers, content providers (especially database aggregators), copyright issues, and academic/research institutions is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate must be able to travel regionally and nationally to attend Fielding Sessions, professional conferences, and meetings of library consortia approximately four times per year.
