Digital Library User Experience Designer
Description
Stanford University Libraries seeks a qualified and dedicated user experience designer to join a world class team devoted to collaborative development of sophisticated software to support the Library's mission of creating, preserving and making digital resources available in support of teaching, learning and research.
The user experience designer will take a lead role in understanding user requirements, defining functionality, and designing the interface and application flow of digital library services and software in order to meet users needs. The candidate will work on a variety of projects relating to the core functions of a digital library. These include depositing and publishing resources, data and content management, preservation and replication, all at a large scale. Current initiatives involve in the integration and development of systems based on Linked Open Data technologies. Come work in an agile-inspired, test-driven, team environment, balancing the rapid and incremental delivery of new functionality with operational robustness.
The Digital Library user experience designer will join a distinguished and widely-recognized team of nearly 65 software developers, information architects, user experience designers, devops engineers, system administrators, project managers and academic technologists with combined decades of expertise in building tools and infrastructure in support of research and teaching. The Stanford Libraries is a leader in the global library and cultural heritage technology communities, leads and contributes to open source projects, and helps develop and contribute to open standards.
The successful candidate will lead the analysis and design of applications based on Linked Open Data technologies. S/he will drive an agile design process that includes understanding user requirements, creating design documents, validating designs with users, and applying visual design. In many cases this role will extend beyond Stanford and into the broader digital library community.

This is a fixed term position through June 30, 2020 in Stanford Library's Digital Library Systems and Services group based on the main Stanford campus with the possibility for renewal. This position is dual posted at level 2 or level 3.
