As the primary manager of the unit’s archival collection management system, the Access Archivist manages all records in the archival content management system, which is currently Archivists’ Toolkit, but will be transitioning to ArchivesSpace; establishes, documents, and ensures consistent practices for collection description; coordinates training for staff involved in the creation of EAD finding aids; takes action to standardize metadata for legacy finding aids; and works to ensure the accessibility of materials through maintenance of and enhancements to the end-user interface and navigation for the EAD repository. This position is responsible for the online publication of finding aids for the Special Collections Division.

As a liaison between the Special Collections Division and other library units, this position works with Special Collections Cataloging, Preservation and Conservation, and Application and Digital Services to select materials for digitization, while considering such factors as scholarly impact, fragility of materials, copyright, and privacy. The position also works closely with Cataloging and Digital Collections to oversee the quality control of metadata provided by the division to the Digital Collections repository. The position also advises on best practices for ensuring the long-term preservation of digital materials found in manuscript collections and archives.

This position participates in the Special Collections Division’s public service activities, including instruction, reference, and social media services and some weekend and evening work as required.
