Description

Serving as the link between content specialists/creators and technical staff, the Digital Collections Librarian will take a lead role in the creation, design, maintenance, promotion, and stewardship of digital collections and repository systems at ECU. The person in this position will manage projects; seek and evaluate potential digital collections, including preparing cost estimates; collaborate with internal and external partners in the creation and support of online exhibitions and digital scholarship projects; and assist in improving the access, discovery, usability, and preservation of ECU’s scholarship and digital collections. This position will be responsible for promoting completed projects and engaging with local and national professional conferences and organizations.

The current digital collections platforms consist of a home-grown system and DSpace, which together contain a variety of collections, including theses and dissertations, digitized images of unique materials from the library’s special collections, digitized audio performances from the School of Music, and digital scholarship projects completed by ECU faculty and students. Joyner Library is investigating the potential of consolidating content from legacy platforms into a Fedora Commons repository in order to build a robust digital preservation infrastructure and provide a unified discovery experience. This position will play a key role in implementing this infrastructure, ensuring that the needs of users, content providers, faculty, staff, and researchers are met in support of the Library’s strategic goals.

The Digital Collections Librarian will join the Application & Digital Services (ADS) unit, a team of programmers, technology professionals and librarians that support the digitization, web, and software needs of ECU Libraries. This position works closely and collaboratively with many library departments, including but not limited to: Research and Scholarly Communication, Manuscripts & Rare Books, North Carolina Collection, University Archives, Music Library, and Cataloging. This position often works directly with researchers, ECU faculty and staff, and community partners, and will support new initiatives for digital library work by consulting on a variety of projects for different departments, both in the library and on campus.

Initial screening begins early January. For requirements, more information, or to apply, please visit http://ecu.peopleadmin.com/postings/11201
