Description

The University of Virginia Library seeks an Integrated Library Systems Engineer. The ILS Engineer is a member of the University Library's Information Technology team, providing application management, customization, developing import/export services and analytics for the Library's Integrated Library System (ILS). The position is responsible for interoperability between the ILS and other Library or University systems, performance tuning, data/system security and work with vendors and Library stakeholders. This position will be a lead expert and will work with others leveraging ILS services for professional schools or smaller institutions.

The position's responsibilities include: Administer the ILS, including system maintenance, ongoing operations and reports, customer support, and system scripting. Work with colleagues to interoperate with other University systems such as the Student Information System, Identity and Access Management, Inter-Library Loan system, Inventory Management Systems, etc.  Administer and design systems to include secure access, data safety and integrity. Serve as a subject matter expert and consultant to University Library.  Maintain and enhance data access and workflows concerning the ILS.  Performance tune systems and troubleshoot to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational problems. Regulate and monitor file and system access to ensure confidentiality and proper use. Maintain file services and backup/recovery processes and procedures.  Conduct growth analysis and capacity planning, and develop capital and operating budget proposals.  Design and program specific system management utilities in response to University/department/client needs; install and debug new and/or upgraded software on server and client platforms, ensuring compliance with current site licenses; coordinate the documentation of all supported systems; manage websites and associated pages.  Research new releases and complimentary or competing products within the field.

Qualifications, Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline or a combination of technical training and demonstrated system and software development experience. Three -five years of experience with: Complex application administration and/or development; Production application support and maintenance; and -System scripting.  The following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Shell scripting, end user support and strong verbal and written communication skills.  The following computer applications: Unix OS and PERL.
Preferred: Experience with Integrated Library System administration; ILS API programming; Enterprise application performance tuning; Database; and Metadata knowledge. 
The following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of the University data security policies; Perl scripting and use of APIs; Project management; System performance tuning capability; and Capacity Planning.  The following computer applications:  ILS, indexing, database, Atlassian confluence & Jira.
