The University Library at UNC Chapel Hill invites applications from enthusiastic, collaborative, analytical, and user-centered individuals for the new position of Assessment Librarian. Reporting to the Head of User Experience and Assessment, the Assessment Librarian is responsible for coordinating, expanding, and enhancing Assessment efforts across the University Library and Health Sciences Library.

The Assessment Librarian works closely with staff from User Experience and Assessment, Library Information & Technology, Research & Instructional Services, the Research Hub, Library Administration and many other units on collecting and reporting data, as well as designing and delivering qualitative and quantitative assessment projects. The person in this position conducts or directs many types of assessment, including ethnographic research, usability studies, usage data collection, user needs assessments, and interviews. The Assessment Librarian designs and develops needed instruments, methods, and workflows to empower library staff to conduct and analyze their own coordinated assessment projects. The person in this position gathers, reports, and publishes statistics for the Library, serves as the Library’s primary contact for the University Institutional Review Board, and helps communicate Libraries’ impact and value in broader University-level goals and metrics.

The Assessment Librarian:  

·         Coordinates assessment projects across the University Library and Health Sciences Library

·         Provides consultation and other support for identifying assessment goals and priorities, data collection, qualitative assessment, and quantitative assessment conducted by library staff, units, teams, and/or committees

·         Identifies, captures, and shares stories of Libraries’ impact on the campus community and beyond, based on data and results from assessment projects

·         Contributes to library strategic planning and decision-making, using knowledge gained from assessment activities

·         Coordinates the collection and management of data for planning, evaluating, and reporting purposes

·         Collaborates and coordinates with campus units outside the library on assessment issues, as needed

Required Qualifications:

·         ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library or information science, or related advanced degree

·         Familiarity with the work of academic research libraries

·         Knowledge of assessment practices, principles, and trends in libraries and/or higher education

·         Knowledge of tools and processes for analyzing and drawing insight from data

·         Demonstrated ability to learn and implement new technologies and tools

·         A commitment to high ethical standards in data collection and analysis

·         Excellent communication skills, including the ability to report about complex data

·         Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in groups

·         Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively and set priorities

·         Strong commitment to user-centered public services

Preferred Qualifications:

·         User Research experience, including standard usability methodologies

·         Proficient with HTML, CSS, and WordPress

·         Experience developing or maintaining internal services and workflows

·         Experience with data visualization and data analysis tools

·         Experience building, designing, or developing programs, projects, or initiatives

·         Experience with national assessment initiatives such as LibQUAL, IPEDs, ACRL, ARL, etc.

Salary and Benefits
This is a twelve-month academic librarian appointment; salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Standard state benefits of annual leave, sick leave, and State or optional retirement plan.
