Description
The ISSN International Centre (ISSN IC) is an intergovernmental organization established in 1975 by a treaty between France and UNESCO. It is based in Paris (45 rue de Turbigo, 75003) and employs a staff of 13. It consists of three departments: Data, network and standards, Sales, marketing and Communication, IT.
The ISSN (Insternational Standard Serial Number) is an international number which uniquely identifies serial publications. It is thus assigned in particular to newspapers, journals and monographic series, regardless of their medium of publication.
The ISSN IC cooperates with ISSN national centres located in 89 countries. The main activities of the ISSN International Centre (www.issn.org) are:
- Updating and enhancing the ISSN International Register, the standardized and international database of serial print and online publications,
- Coordinating the activities of the 89 ISSN national centres worldwide which share their bibliographic data with the ISSN International Centre,
- Assigning ISSN and creating descriptive data for international organisations’ publications and publications produced in countries without any ISSN national centre,
- Marketing and disseminating ISSN Data via the ISSN International Register (portal.issn.org) and related services such as ROAD Directory of Open Access Scholarly Resources (road.issn.org). These tools are currently being updated.
The Web developer will work under the supervision of the head of the IT department, and will perform the following duties:
- Take part in the maintenance of current web applications in cooperation with their developers and develop new ones, in particular in the framework of the bibliographic data portal, the extranet managing subscriptions and ISSN assignment requests, and of the ISSN IC’s corporate website and extranet for the ISSN network,
- Ensure the development of new web services linked to these applications, by using Agile methods in cooperation with the other ISSN IC’s departments, the ISSN National Centres and with customers in order to develop tried and tested functionalities suited to needs,
- Contribute to the design and the implementation of bibliographic data exchange processes (bibliographic records in ISO 2709 , MarcXML…);
- Write well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices,
- Design and implement intuitive user interfaces and modular web templates using HTML/CSS best practices,
- Create and update user and technical documentation in French and English,
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and innovative services.
