The Assistant Dean for Public Services reports to the Associate Dean of University Libraries. We seek an innovative, dynamic, and forward thinking individual to lead the library’s public services operations. The Assistant Dean is responsible for the strategic delivery of public services through the management of all public service operations including library instruction, distance learning, reference and research, interlibrary loans, microforms, and circulation/reserves. The incumbent will direct all aspects of public services, including development of policies and procedures, recruiting, scheduling, training, mentoring and evaluating library faculty and support staff. The Assistant Dean serves on the Library Council as well as the University Libraries Dean’s Council.Requirements
This tenure track position requires at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic or research library; a MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; recent experience in library management including supervision of major departments or units within a library; knowledge of teaching trends and issues in higher education. Desired qualifications include a second master’s degree or earned doctorate; experience in writing and managing successful grant proposals; knowledge and application of assessment methodologies; experience in working with research and/or teaching faculty, librarians, students and support staff.
