Under the direction of the Botany Librarian, the Digital Projects Librarian will collaborate closely with colleagues in the Harvard Library, members of the Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL), faculty, staff, library users, and vendors to design and manage collaborative projects to deliver digital resources. The Digital Projects Librarian will work closely with Harvard University Herbaria (HUH) IT staff to integrate library and archival resources with specimen data, monitor emerging web and library technologies, and recommend modifications as needed. This position will assist in the preparation of project proposals and the formulation of project budgets and work plans. Determine the appropriate digital service to use to accomplish project goals. Coordinate activities for digitization projects with colleagues/services for materials assessment, conservation treatment, metadata enhancement, digital imaging, post-imaging processing, and related duties. Ensure that digital projects proceed according to their respective schedules, budgets, and work plans. Prepare and maintain necessary project documentation including tracking all materials and reporting on project progress and budget milestones. Train and supervise temporary staff and students. Assist in troubleshooting project processes and workflows. Liaise with production team and curators to ensure progress of project and assist with production activities as needed. Assist with requests for images by supplying appropriate content with permission/licensing forms as required. Manage the Botany Libraries web pages in conjunction with the Head of Public Services & Archives and the Collection Services Archivist. Liaise with the HUH Bioinformatics team and other appropriate colleagues to ensure compatible protocols and metadata standards. Work with the librarian on collection strategies related to digitization and physical retention. Support the Botany Libraries, public services, teaching and research activities. Observe all HUH and Botany Library security protocols. The Harvard University Herbaria (HUH) house five comprehensive, non-circulating research libraries that are managed collectively as the Botany Libraries. The combined collections are rich repositories of rate books, manuscripts, field notes, and historical correspondence, as well as current monographs, journals and electronic media. Union: 00 - Non Union, Exempt or Temporary
M.L.S. or an equivalent of education plus relevant experience. Five or more years of library experience.
Familiarity with current digital technologies and proficiency using a variety of computer software and systems. Excellent organizational skills with particular ability to prioritize work in an environment with multiple and conflicting interests. Proven project management skills. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.
