Description

This position is located in the Eliot Elisofon Photographic Archives of the National Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Institution. The incumbent assists the Supervisory Archivist to manage extensive photographic collections in a wide variety of media and forms and associated textual and computerized records.

The incumbent applies professional archival principles and methods of appraisal, arrangement, preservation and description to the existing photographic records and to additional collections as they are acquired.

Duties

Responsible for processing, digitizing, cataloguing and creating access to archival and photographic collections; conducting historical and photographic research to validate, update, and correct existing collections data; applying archival standards to digitization process of photographic formats and digital media.
Preservation and storage of archival and photographic materials; identification of multiple formats of photographic and digital media for proper rehousing, storage and conservation of archival photographic collections and digital media.
Supplying research and reference service to staff and outside users of the Archives; applies copyright rules and proper procedures for reproduction and use of archival materials.
Performs digital asset management of archival and photographic collections; Use of digital imaging standards, software and new media technology to process archival photographic collections and digital media.
