Garrett College seeks a dynamic and experienced leader with the understanding of the evolving role of the Library and Learning Commons Model. Reporting to the Vice President for Instruction and Student Services, the Director will manage the internal operations of the Learning Commons which should offer technologically enhanced learning spaces for faculty to experiment with new technologies that support innovative learning and for students to take advantage of integrated spaces and staffing for library research, writing and math centers, tutoring and testing.

The Director is responsible for planning, implementing, supervising and assessing the resources and services of the Library and Learning Commons. The ideal candidate will be a professional who understands emerging issues facing the libraries of today, has a commitment to responsive and innovative services and outreach and can optimize resources. The successful candidate will also possess an in-depth understanding of current technological trends so as to assist the campus in striking a balance between print and digital library worlds. Specific focus should be given to collaboration with faculty to support student learning and advance information literacy.

Requirements

A Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program is required. The ideal candidate will have substantial professional experience, including at least five years in an Academic Library; with three years in an administrative leadership position such as a Library Director or department head. Supervisory experience and excellent collaboration and communication skills are also required.
