Hamilton College seeks a creative and strategic thinker to join our Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) division in the role of Discovery and Delivery Systems Analyst. Reporting to the Director of Metadata and Digital Strategies, the Discovery and Delivery Systems Analyst serves as a technical expert related to library systems software, standards and infrastructure. The position demands solid knowledge of core library systems and collections workflows, as well as ability to think strategically about evolving systems to meet emerging needs. The incumbent will manage our discovery and delivery systems as well as collaborate on digital humanities projects. Hamilton and LITS are innovators in supporting teaching, learning and faculty/ student scholarship. With grant funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, LITS staff are actively engaged in an internationally recognized effort to support digital scholarship through the Digital Humanities Initiative (DHi). In 2014, Hamilton College and Colgate University joined edX to experiment with online learning, promote the public scholarship of our faculty, and enhance our intellectual connection with alumni. The following year, together with Davidson and Wellesley, the four liberal arts colleges formed Liberal Arts Online: A Digital Teaching and Learning Collaborative to share our experiences and work together to better understand the potential impact of online and blended learning for our residential institutions.

In LITS, we have a broad program of employing students in substantive support roles, both to deliver excellent services, and to develop information and technology skills that they can apply throughout their careers. Our research tutor program provides opportunity for students to provide research support to their peers under the guidance of our research librarians. Similar programs exist to provide technology support to faculty and students. Hamilton is a member of important national and regional consortia including the Oberlin Group, ConnectNY, the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges, and the Council on Library and Information Resources and has a commitment to the ongoing professional development of its employees.

Originally founded in 1793 as the Hamilton-Oneida Academy, Hamilton’s 1,350-acre hilltop campus overlooks the New England-style Village of Clinton, New York, in close proximity to the Adirondack Park. Its open curriculum gives students the freedom to tailor their own liberal arts education within a research- and writing-intensive framework. The highly selective college enrolls 1,850 students. Broadly responsible for development and administration of current and emerging systems implementations, with a focus on how they integrate within and beyond the library.

Specific responsibilities include:

Maintain and enhance library catalog, discovery, and related systems. (Currently includes Voyager, Summon, EZProxy.)
Integrate library systems with campus and consortial systems. (e.g. Blackboard, ConnectNY, RefWorks)
Maintain digital collections software. In conjunction with the DHi Lead Designer & Software Engineer, Library Information Systems Specialist, and Unix/HPC System Administrator responsible for maintenance and configuration of digital collections software. (Currently CONTENTdm, Islandora / Fedora / Drupal, Omeka, eXist.)
Ensure library systems and patron data are aligned with college policies. (e.g. security, preferred name)
Contribute significantly to interface design. Working closely with the DHi Lead Designer & Software Engineer, Library Information Systems Specialist, and various stakeholders incumbent contributes to development and implementation of clear (technically advanced, reflective of collection specific subject idiosyncrasies, yet integrated across collections) interface designs to digital collections and library resources.
Enhance services integration. Working closely with members of LITS incumbent ensures interfaces designs are reflective of, and enhance, services offered by LITS.
Implement digital collection preservation systems.

A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent knowledge gained through education and work experience is required.
Experience with the Voyager ILS is highly desired.
Experience with digital collections software is highly desired, experience with Islandora is a plus.
Experience working in an academic library is desired, an academic library in a small liberal arts college is a plus.
