Archives Technician

Presbyterian Historical Society, Philadelphia, PA

Part-time position; 6-month contract with possibility for extension; no benefits

19 hrs/week; $14/hr

 

The Presbyterian Historical Society seeks an Archives Technician to assist with the development of digital collections in the society's Islandora digital repository. This position will focus primarily on the creation of descriptive metadata, using MODS schema, for scanned photographs and archival materials, including audio and video. The Archives Technician will also ingest digital objects into the digital repository and review and edit existing metadata. In addition, the Archives Technician may be asked to digitize collection materials and assist with post-production review of scanned images.

 

Minimum Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree and related work experience in an archives or library setting; or Bachelor's degree and currently enrolled in an ALA accredited library or information science graduate program, with coursework related to digital libraries, metadata, or cataloging.

* Familiarity with metadata schema commonly used for digital projects, such as Dublin Core or MODS.

* Familiarity with controlled vocabularies, such as Library of Congress and Getty thesauri.

* High level of attention to detail.

* Experience working with Microsoft Office products, such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.

* Experience searching library, archive, or museum databases or Integrated Library Systems (ILSes).

* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

 

Preferred Skills:

* Experience using a Content Management System, such as Drupal.

* Experience working with Adobe products, such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and Acrobat.

* Experience operating flat-bed or overhead scanners.

* Familiarity with mark-up languages, such as XML or HTML.
