Department Summary
Tufts Technology Services (TTS) is a university-wide service organization dedicated to the strategic planning, implementation, and support of technology products and services that anticipate and meet the academic, research, clinical and business needs of the Tufts community. Tisch Library supports the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering, providing the services and resources to assist members of the Tufts community in their teaching, learning and research. Tisch Library provides collections, expertise, and technology-rich environments to support the creation and dissemination of scholarship.

Job Summary
Tufts Technology Services and the Tisch Library seek a talented software engineer to join a professionally interdisciplinary team of software engineers, archivists, and librarians in developing digital library and repository software solutions. The systems being developed enable management, preservation, and online discovery that support the research data and scholarly, scientific, and creative expression of researchers, instructors, and students throughout the University. This position’s focus is on meeting the academic needs of Tufts’ largest schools, the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering, which will require close collaboration with metadata specialists and other Tisch staff members, as well as consultation directly with faculty and students to understand technology needs and develop solutions. The successful candidate will engage in digital preservation strategies and repository systems research within the Digital Library Development team and support an expanding suite of data and informatics technologies within technology services and the library.

Essential Functions
Work within an interdisciplinary team to design, develop and deploy world-class, community-driven digital library and data repository software primarily, but not exclusively, on the Fedora technology stack. Utilize a variety of technologies, including Ruby, Java, Python, JavaScript, XML, HTML, and CSS and libraries like Bootstrap, and Ruby on Rails.  Participate in code reviews, analyze new technologies for potential adoption / integration into our main code base.  Maintain professional growth by keeping abreast of emerging areas in digital curation and informatics.

Perform project related work to leverage and further develop existing infrastructures that preserve and offer interaction with unique scholarly research output and library software and systems work with them

Serve as part of a team that is responsible for the operation and maintenance of production digital repository and web-based systems.
