Library Web Interface Designer

 The Upstate Health Sciences Library is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Web Designer to lead the Library Web Team in the creation of an innovative and agile online environment that ensures that our students, faculty, health care providers and community can easily discover and use our services and resources.

On the job you will:

• Collaborate with Library staff and campus/community stakeholders to create an engaging web presence that:
• Makes it easy to locate and use a diverse collection of resources
• Builds relationships and connects customers with the HSL Team
• Provides point-of-need help/support
• Teaches people to better discover, manage and cite information
• Keeps customers informed of what is new and possible at the HSL
• Provide leadership for assessment /usability initiatives, web-related projects and major redesigns
• Collaborate with the Library archivist to develop an intuitive, interactive multi-media platform that presents inter-related video, photographic and print content.
• Work with campus Information Management & Technology to advance Library web initiatives
• Remain current with trends and advances in web technologies
• Provide general technical support in absence of Library Technology Analyst

Minimum Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in computer science, library/information science, information systems, graphic design, or equivalent
• Proficiency with creating, maintaining and customizing websites and web applications/tools using current web coding standards (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, etc.)
• Experience with creating database driven and/or dynamic web content
• Excellent communication, time management and project manage skills
• Dedication to identifying and developing solutions to meet customers’ needs

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters Degree in Library or Information Science, or equivalent
• Background in an academic and/or health sciences library environment
• Working knowledge of MySQL, PHP and JQuery
• Experience with discovery systems (e.g., Cascade)
• Familiarity with METS and/or EAD
