The Data Analyst provides data to support decision-making, policy-making, strategic planning, and assessment within the University Library. This position collects, analyzes, and reports data from both internal and external data sources. The position interacts with internal and external constituents.

  • Develop a thorough familiarity with the many data sources available to the campus and Library, and understand the appropriate use of each. Maintain an understanding of reporting requirements.
  • Create official reports that support the University Library’s reporting and compliance responsibilities.
  • Assist administrators, faculty, and staff in the Library in obtaining timely, accurate, and relevant information in support of business processing, unit level decision making, etc.  Assist staff in the appropriate and secure use of the data provided and/or maintained by the University Library.
  • Work with the Library Business Office, various Library units/committees that conduct assessment activities, and other groups as required to design and build new interfaces and systems to meet changing information needs.
  • Extract data from various sources and databases to create reports for responding to ad hoc queries such as business reporting, etc. Respond independently and with discretion and judgment to questions, problems, and suggestions from end-users.
  • Verify data accuracy; initiate and resolve data quality issues. Maintain up-to-date documentation on all projects, processes, and reports.
  • Understand the legal and regulatory environment controlling the use and dissemination of campus and Library data, including highly confidential information.

The Infrastructure Management and Support (IMS) group manages all Library infrastructure hardware and software operations, including server and storage systems. The IMS group also supports production applications, whether open source, developed in-house, or third party.
The extent of support includes monitoring for availability/performance, applying application and security patches, implementing backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans, and maintaining the IT service catalog. Additionally, the IMS group collaborates with the Library IT Help Desk and the Workstation & Network Support (WNS) group to provide system services and is often involved in resolving support questions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and two years related experience in data systems development and/or information technologies.
  • Experience with programming, including demonstrated competence in SQL.
  • Experience with MS Office suite and Windows operating systems, including Access and Excel.
  • Attentive to detail, is organized, and is flexible in an environment of multiple projects and continually shifting deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in information science, computer science, information technology, information systems or related field.
  • Experience with web application development and enterprise data systems including Banner and Business Objects.
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g. SAS, SPSS, R.)
  • Experience with XML, HTML, ASP, ASP.NET, Perl, and/or PHP.
  • Experience with interactive data visualization tools, such as Tableau.
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating complex technical ideas to non-technical professionals.

Salary:  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials. 

Terms of appointment:  Twelve-month appointment; 24 annual vacation days; 11 annual paid holidays; 12 annual sick-leave days (cumulative), plus an additional 13 sick-leave days (non-cumulative) available, if needed, each year; health insurance requiring a small co-payment is provided to employee (with the option to purchase coverage for spouse and dependents); required participation in State Universities Retirement System (SURS) (8% of annual salary is withheld and is refundable upon termination), with several options for participation in additional retirement plans; newly-hired employees are covered by the Medicare portion of Social Security and are subject to its deduction.
