Xavier University of Louisiana Archives and Special Collections is seeking applications for an experienced professional to fill the position of Digital Project Archivist. This is a full-time temporary grant funded appointment for twenty-one months.Responsibilities include digitally processing the Charles F. Heartman Manuscripts of Slavery Collection and creating applicable metadata for each scan through CONTENTdm. The Digital Project Archivist will work with the Associate Archivist and Systems Librarian to insure all policies and procedures are followed. Minimum Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree from am ALA-accredited library or information science program
- A background in Louisiana history, African-American history, eighteenth and nineteenth century Southern history, or other relevant subject experience
- Experience in digitally processing archival records in a library or museum setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of current standards of archival description and practice, including DACS, and other appropriate thesauri
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in an archival setting
