Head, Metadata Services (Emory University, Georgia)
Reporting to the Head of Emory Libraries Technical Services, the Metadata Services Librarian directs the goals and assignments of staff responsible for metadata creation and cataloging (MARC and non-MARC) at all levels, in all formats and for all collections, and promotes a collaborative and cohesive work environment. This position regularly consults with managers in acquisitions and e-resource management to optimize productivity and collaboration contributing to continuous process improvement in technical services operations.  She/he will provide staff with opportunities for advanced training and learning skills in metadata description and access to keep pace with Emory Libraries’ Digital Library Program. The Librarian is responsible for implementing and integrating metadata creation, e-book and e-resources management into evolving workflows supporting the ongoing digitization of local resources. The incumbent will coordinate projects for non-MARC metadata from digital collections, supervising and training staff to contribute metadata supporting institutional repositories and discovery methods enhancing access to content for library users.  She/he collaborates with librarians and staff throughout Emory Libraries to establish and document relevant policies and procedures to ensure efficient workflows supporting discovery of the library’s print and digital content in ALMA.  The Librarian supervises one manager and four catalogers and serves as the unit head for Metadata Services with programmatic responsibility for functional areas and overall supervision of technical services staff and students.
