The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking a Web Designer to support the Center for History of Physics and Niels Bohr Library & Archives.  This person will report to the Assistant Director of the Niels Bohr Library & Archives. The ideal candidate will create and maintain departmental web pages using Drupal 7. He/she will transform older sub-sites into engaging online experiences and complete our content migration to Drupal, as well as incorporate digital manuscript collections into Drupal and integrate existing catalogs and collections. The successful candidate will also work with other AIP departments on print and web design projects as needed in support of the mission of AIP’s History Programs.
Qualifications:

At least two years’ experience maintaining a site built with Drupal 7 or comparable PHP-based CMS, with a minimum of four years’ experience creating websites using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Digital Design and Communications, is required. Additionally, a minimum of 1 year of experience using XML and XSLT for rendering pages as well as proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) are required. The ideal candidate will also have a strong working knowledge of user interface/user experience design best practice, excellent visual and written communication skills (with technical and non-technical people alike), demonstrated understanding of graphic and web design principles, including typography, layout, and color theory, and strong ability to prioritize work and resources across assignments, based on short and long-term needs. Proficiency on both Mac and Windows operating systems are essential. An online portfolio will be requested.
