The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks an innovative, flexible, and forward-thinking leader for the position of Associate University Librarian (AUL) for User Services.

The expected start date is August 16. This is a 100%, twelve-month, tenure-system appointment.

Responsibilities:
The Associate University Librarian (AUL) for User Services provides leadership within the Library, working collaboratively across campus, with the local community, and with national and international partners to create and support traditional and cutting edge services designed to meet the current and emergent needs of students, faculty, and staff.

In collaboration with the Dean and the AUL for Collections and Technical Services, the AUL for Research, the Assistant Deans, and other groups in the Library (e.g. the Budget Group, Executive Committee, etc.), this position shares in Library-wide planning, policy development, resource allocation, and personnel management; contributes to the development of strategic initiatives; and plays a key role in developing a shared vision for the Library’s future. The AULs are also expected to play a leadership role in promoting teamwork, diversity, and inclusiveness within the UIUC Library and with campus partners. In addition, AULs serve as the Library’s representatives and advocates to relevant campus, consortial, or multi-institutional groups. All faculty at the University of Illinois Library maintain a strong agenda in research, scholarly publication, and professional service activities in areas appropriate for academic librarianship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Additionally, the individual in this position promotes the development of evidence-based research and establishes priorities that advance the Library’s broader goal of being a user-focused Library capable of serving the needs of faculty, scholars and students.

Program Responsibilities:
The Associate University Librarian (AUL) for User Services and Associate Dean of Libraries reports to the Dean of Libraries and develops and leads the Library’s overall vision for programs that support teaching, learning, and user-facing services. Specifically, the AUL for Services will be responsible for providing leadership (in collaboration with other AULS) for programs, initiatives, and activities in the following areas:
  • Access Services
  • Accessibility for users with disabilities
  • Assessment
  • Delivery & discovery services
  • Information literacy and instruction services
  • Public service programs and policies
  • Outreach and public engagement
  • Reference services
  • Staff training and development
  • User experience
