Description

We require a Web developer with experience working with mapping technologies to contribute to the development of software for a cartographic project

We are looking to replace an existing implementation of WordPress and Mapbox (see https://digitallab.psu.edu/projects/mappingbelami) with aplatform-independent solution, built on open Web technologies. The purpose of this project is to allow students to add places of narrative importance to a map, providing textual and visual content for reference. Developers should use the aforementioned link as an example of project content and basic functionality.

We require someone with expertise in the Web technologies necessary to build this platform. Pre existing open source libraries may be used, but all code must be appropriately commented, and thorough documentation detailing all modular development and integration must be provided.

From an operational perspective, the finished development should work as follows:
  • Students will place data into a structured format
  • This data will appear on the front-end map
  • As is currently the case, the map must be interactive, allowing for users to click between these points, displaying the relevant data
We appreciate that there are multiple ways to approach this functionality, and welcome proposals from developers as to how they would build this tool. The structure should be reusable, so that the underlying data can be changed in the future, and implemented across a number of similar projects.

This is a short-term, grant-funded opportunity.

Any queries should be address to Dawn Childress (dawn@psu.edu) and James O’Sullivan (josullivan@psu.edu).
